How To Figure A Bridle: Video Transcript
Hi there. I’m Dr. Kara Yarbrough and I’m here today at Tuff Competition Farm in Canton, Georgia. And I’m here to talk to you about how to properly figure eight a bridle. This is good for all of our students to learn how to do this.
There’s many different ways to do it. And I’m going to show you the way that I prefer to do it. I like putting the reins at the top, the buckle at the top, and the throat latch wrapping around the bridle, I prefer twice, you can also do once, and I slide it through just the keepers. And then the nose band, I take out, cross it behind, wrap it around the front, slide it through the keepers. And the reason why I just slide it through the keepers is that whenever you go to ride, it’s quick, you just pull it out just like that. Some bridles won’t stay and you will have to buckle it.And if your bridle has a martingale, I don’t usually put the martingale with it, unless I’m going to a horse show and that way I keep everything together.
Other ways that are acceptable for figure eighting, you can just do one instead of wrapping it twice around, that makes it not as tight and looks good. I just suggest you do the same with all of your bridles. And then also you can put your reins through the throat latch. And that sometimes is good if you’re also going to a horse show, you don’t want the reins falling, and so it catches the reins. I prefer having the reins up top because when, let’s say, you’re going to a lesson, you pick up your bridle and your reins don’t hit the ground when you take it out to ride.
So, that’s how you figure eight a bridle. And I hope that helps you. Thank you!
